Main aims of the Conference:
The main aim of the Conference is a profound debate on the problem of equality in European Union from the political, philosophical, legal, economical and sociological perspectives.
Conference follows the European debate initiated by UE Council which decided together with European Parliament that 2007 is a European Year for Equal Opportunities for All (EYEO).
During the Conference a special attention will be put on understanding the category of equality in Christian-democratic, social-democratic and liberal thought, and its implications for European Union. The participants are encouraged to consider the optimal strategy of implementation of the principle of equality in Europe and the balance among formal equality, equality of opportunities and equality of outcomes. The aim is also to examine the ways of socio-economical inequality prevention at the international, national, regional and local levels.
During the first day of the Conference there will be two open sessions with specialists - political, social and law scientists, philosophers and economists, and politicians responsible for institute the policy of equality at all levels – local, regional, national and international. During the second day there will be three parallel panels on political, economical and socio-cultural dimensions of equality in EU. The Conference participants are the scientists from Polish universities and special guests from Sofia University, Robert Schuman University in Strasburg, Freie Universität Berlin, University of Tibingen.

1st panel: Formal and substantial political equality in European Union.
power and political influence distribution in UE,
problem of equality in the decision making process,
equal or unequal access to public sphere,
mechanisms of achieving political equality.
2nd panel: Socio-cultural dimension of equality in European Union.
inclusion and exclusion in UE and member states,
social exclusion and means of its reducing,
respect for diversity and problem with stereotypes and prejudices in UE,
discrimination reducing in practice in the context of EU programs.
3rd panel: Causes and effects of economical inequalities.
economical inequalities of member states and regions in UE,
problem of equality at the labour market,
equalization of opportunities in education and labour market development,
economical inequality and economic growth,
freedom of labour and economic dimension of equality,
the disabled, immigrants, women and economic equality.
